Some of our absolute favorite winemakers are based in Alsace, which means we get to visit the region often. We always stay in Strasbourg and have fallen in love with this charming city, its people, and the amazing "vinstub" culture, not to mention the Choucroute!!! Strasbourg has much more to offer than just its famous half-timbered houses and canals and the huge dome. It's also a hidden gem for natural wine lovers and foodies. We want to share some of our favorite spots and secrets with you! From natural wine-focused restaurants and cozy bars to shops filled with cool and interesting bottles from regional and small producers. You better start making notes, as with our guides, you’re guaranteed to eat and drink well. Ready? Here we go!

OUR NUMBER ONE:

Some of the best food we've had so far! Aida describes itself with "small seasonal plates with a Mexican twist". That's absolutely true and we loved it. From tacos (using nixtamalized corn) to that insanely delicious corn on cob you see on that picture - straightforward and creative, seasonal cooking paired with a beautiful selection of natural wines from France and elsewhere. Some vegetarian and vegan options and Lola the waitress is just fabulous. Cozy atmosphere, lovely outside seating. Reservations are a MUST! You can reserve through their website.

P.S.: you HAVE TO try the Infladita with beef tartare. Trust us.

BEST OF THE REST:

JAJA - BAR À VINS

Cozy little natural wine bar with a great selection of only French natural wine and outdoor seating. They also serve snacks like charcuterie and cheese plates and some tarte flambées. No reservations.

ACEROLA

Great Brazilian restaurant with (according to Giuseppe) the best meat he had in the last few years, along with exciting traditional dishes like "banana frita", a few natural wines and classic Brazilian cocktails. Book a table through their website.

AU PONT CORBEAU

Famous and very traditional "stuben" with genuine Alsatian and French kitchen like Choucroute, pork knuckle and one of the best Crème Brûlées we've ever had. Great choice of Alsatian and French wines and natural wines. Reservation is a thing as this place is very sought after by locals and tourists and they are full every night. We went into the restaurant to reserve a table in person and still had to wait an hour (!) in front of the door ,with 20 other people, to be seated. Still worth it. Try your luck. Speaking French is a plus for reservations. Webpages, social media are non existent. Call or walk by and don't rely much on anything they say - you know what, just camp in front of that place until they let you in.

NATURAL WINE SHOPS: 

OENOSPHERE

Oenosphere is not only a natural wine shop with a phenomenal collection of wines from all over the world, it's also a wine bar with indoor and outdoor seating, snacks like charcuterie plates and occasional tasting events. The wines by the glass change all the time. You can also have any bottle from their selection opened.
The wine bar is opened only Thursday to Saturday. The shop is open throughout the week - check their webpage.

A natural wine shop like no other they say. Rietsch, Schueller, Bourre Pif, Pierre Frick anyone? Just to mention a few Alsatian ones. Amazing shop with an insane collection of Alsatian and French natural wines. You can find some Italians like Radikon and Stefano Bellotti in there too along with a smaller selection of international natural wines from Austria, Georgia, Spain and many more. This natural wine store is surprisingly lovely and Jean is too - the owner, who tried them all and also organizes tastings so you can too.
