Let's be real - when you think about Munich, your brain probably goes straight to massive beer steins and Oktoberfest madness, right?
But if you're here, I bet you're hunting for natural wine in Munich. Having lived in Bavaria for years, I watched the organic and natural wine scene move at that typical southern German pace... but luckily, Munich's wine bars and natural wine shops are FINALLY catching fire!
From hidden wine bars to organic wine stores that'll blow your mind, here's our no-BS guide to the best natural wine spots in Munich.
Our Top 6 Natural Wine Spots in Munich
WALTER & BENJAMIN
📍 Rumfordstr. 6, 80469 Munich
Walter & Benjamin are the absolute oldest masters in Munich natural wine. What started as a restaurant in 1996, turned into one of the most authentic organic & natural wine shops and is still going strong. Their expertise in guiding guests to the perfect bottle is second to none and has made them a favorite among wine lovers of all levels. They choose their wines with their heart and love to share what they know, if you let them. They offer tastings on a regular basis. You can find names like Strohmeier, Bretz, Simcic, 2NaturKinder and Ronco Severo on their shelves.
FOREVER THIRSTY
📍 Fraunhoferstr. 7, 80469 Munich
What started as an online shop and distribution, is now also a cozy and colorful pure natural wine shop and daybar in the heart of Glockenbach. Max totally knows what he's doing and gives you the best tips and recommendations - no matter if you are a total newbie or a pro. You can have a seat and wine by the glass from one of the several open bottles, along with some cheese, olives and fresh bread. Or you just drop by and pick up a bottle of Pacina, Nestarec & Icaro to name a few. He also organizes several events and tastings throughout the year, so don't miss out.
ZERO DOSAGE
📍 Augustenstrasse 25, 80333 Munich
Wonderful organic & natural wine shop with a great selection, in the natural wine game since 2018. Their selection ranges from approachable organic wines to more adventurous natural wine bottles, backed by regular wine tastings and educational events. You can find a good bottle of Matassa here, along with a lot of Austrian and German winemakers. Their staff knows their stuff – don't hesitate to ask for recommendations.
USAGI
📍 Thalkirchner Str. 16, 80337 Munich
The coziest Punkrock Izakaya! And one of the places you can find and drink some of our natural wines as well! They have a very unique Japanese-inspired take on food and it never disappoints. Everyday for lunch they have some great "Dirty" Ramen and whenever you're there they play some cool 90s rap or punk and guitar music. We like that so we like them. Carefully selected wine list with a focus on Germany, Austria and France, with some natural wines like some good ol' Cantina Giardino!
BAR MURAL
📍Theresienstr. 1, 80333 Munich
The small sister of the Michelin Star restaurant with over 150 organic, biodynamic and natural wines, focusing on Austrian and French producers, quite reasonably priced. You can obviously spend over 200Euro on a bottle, but you can also pick a Rietsch Sylvaner for 55Euro. Which is rare in Munich!
BLAUE LIBELLE
📍 Hans-Sachs-Strasse 3, 80469 Munich
One of the best Napoletan style pizzas in town. The beef tartare is amazing too. This Glockenbachviertel gem has an IMMENSE and carefully curated (very French focussed) wine list with old and big names. You can find your Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and your bottle of Cristal, close to some Pranzegg, Tscheppe, Marto Wines and even that one bottle of Patrick Bouju if you're lucky.
Other Gems Worth Exploring
- Obalski: great kitchen along with a natural wine list including wines from France, Germany and Italy. 📍 Schyrenstrasse 8, Munich
- Saluki: Small and cool selection of eastern European, and European natural & biodynamic wines. Very homey atmosphere where you can enjoy smaller plates & sometimes Ramen. 📍Thalkirchner Str. 130, Munich
- Pizza Studio: Napoletan pizza + organic, biodynamic & natural wine. Probably the only place you can find an Anders Frederik Steen bottle. 📍Herzogstr. 29, Munich
- Benvido: VERY cozy café with a little selection of natural wine and one of the two places you can actually drink and buy some 2NaturKinder. Great snacks, coffee and cakes. 📍Franz-Joseph-Str. 30, Munich
- Ten Inch: Turkish Mezze & huge winelist with a few and more classic natural wines like Cascina Delle Rose and Emidio Pepe. 📍Gotzinger Str. 19, Munich
Last but not least
Munich loves classic and its natural wine scene still has some work to do. If you do some digging you can find some great stuff here and there. There's something for everyone, from expensive to affordable, from classic and posh to chill & easy.
